You win!
Your dog wins!
Your trainer wins!

It’s all about making better citizens (canine and human) by working together. You choose and adopt a trained dog (or get your own dog trained. Your dog behaves well and enjoys a better quality of life. And your new friend’s trainer learns the trade, business and personal skills to become a productive part of society upon release from prison.

How to Get Started

There are two basic choices. You can adopt a dog at one our partner adoption agencies below. Your dog will go straight into the next training session and come out with some polish. Or you can send one or more of your own dogs for a training session, citing your particular needs, and pick up your classy grad at the end of the session. Links to applications can be found below, along with contact information and links for each organization.

How Does It Work?

We operate as part of the Greyhound Advancement Center’s very successful prison dog training program. GAC has more than a decade of experience, and has graduated more than 900 dogs. It is a charter member of the Department of Corrections Occupational Credentialing Program. Trainers who complete the immersive 80-week program are certified as dog trainers by the State of Florida.

Your dog will join 5 - 8 other dogs for behavioral training in addition to basic obedience. Dogs learn from all of the trainers and the other dogs over 8 - 10 weeks of training. The dogs provide a positive atmosphere to the entire campus. Trainers are provided with materials and instruction for dog training, business development, and personal development, as well as weekly training sessions led by selected GAC volunteers.

When you pick up your dog, you will be invited to his/her graduation, often a moving event. You will also receive a written journal detailing your dog’s visit including habits, training, health data, etc. Written description of your dog’s cues are provided, and video demonstrations of the basic obedience cues are being developed for the GAC site.
